Treasure Hunt in Istanbul

March 2009 saw the Treasure Hunt Team head out to exotic Istanbul to arrange a spy themed event for guests staying at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Istanbul, a crossroads between East and West, is full of espionage history.

80 people were divided into 10 teams of 8 to head out into the city based around the fascinating and historic Grand Bazaar. Locals joined in the fun as teams found locations, solved puzzled and liased with secret agents in the field.

Spy Bath

One of our spies was tracked down to a private booth in a Turkish Bath. Visitors had to solve a mystery to get their hands on a sim card containing further instructions.

Two agents walked into a bar. Both ordered the same drink. One drank quickly and survived, the other drank slowly and died. How did this happen?

The treasure hunt combined fun activities with sight seeing and after three hours everyone returned to a cafe in the centre of the Bazaar for Turkish Coffee and then time for shopping before coaches took everyone back to the hotel.

Apprentice Style Challenges

We could not resist the opportunity to test the teams' haggling abilities, so we included a scavenger list of items connected to the spy theme; including sunglasses, handcuffs and a pair of binoculars. All had to be bought at below their listed price.

Using a foreign location is a great way of adding spice to a treasure hunt. With flight prices low and generally lower event costs it also makes financial sense for companies who have to keep to a budget for their event.
